These designs speak to the loss of organic purity and the relentless intrusion of the artificial, raising profound questions about identity in an increasingly digitalized world.
…where identity, feelings and consciousness intertwine with the machine. The semi-human, semi-mechanical face is a reflection on post-human evolution, on a future in which biology is modified, improved or even replaced by technology. The cybernetic eye that glows bright red symbolises future vision, but also alienation from the present: the human being, in his quest to transcend his physical limitations, sacrifices his humanity in the process…
Title: “Silence Grips”
Technical analysis: The designs recall the tenets of Futurism in their celebration of the machine, but here fused with the surrealism of H.R. Giger, evoking a haunting landscape between the biological and the mechanical. The colour palette, dominated by black, white and red, is minimalist yet striking, alluding to the dramatic use of colour in Russian Constructivist propaganda, as seen in the works of El Lissitzky and Rodchenko. Vibrant red is symbolic of power, danger, and impending collapse, while black and white are juxtaposed to underline the conflict between the human and the inhuman, the organic and the artificial. The geometric compositions, with sharp lines cutting through space, are reminiscent of the works of Kazimir Malevich in their use of abstract forms and deconstruction of space. The human side of the face is hyper-realistic, but at the same time appears cold and lifeless, which may suggest influences from the cyberpunk movement, particularly in relation to the visual works of Masamune Shirow, creator of Ghost in the Shell.
