Smart Specimen | 2025

“Smart Specimen” is a visual representation of digital evolution, a concept that merges art with technology and artificial intelligence. Within the context of contemporary digital art, this piece aligns with the tradition established by visionary artists such as Nam June Paik, a pioneer of video art, and Manfred Mohr, who explored algorithmic art and geometric abstraction through programming. The work also recalls the aesthetics of Refik Anadol‘s digital experiments, where artificial intelligence and data processing generate ever-changing forms.

This piece suggests a reflection on the nature of digital organisms, evoking the possibility of technology developing its own aesthetic language—autonomous and organic. In this sense, “Smart Specimen” can be interpreted as a manifestation of “digital life,” a concept explored by bio-art pioneers like Eduardo Kac, who merged biology with artificial intelligence to examine the intersection between the natural and the synthetic.

The evolution of digital art has led to the creation of forms that appear alive, dynamic, and in constant mutation. This process is linked to the rise of generative aesthetics, where randomness and code enable the creation of environments that challenge traditional artistic perception. “Smart Specimen” seems to be a creature of this new digital world, floating between the real and the virtual, between the biological and the mechanical, questioning the boundaries of our reality.
