The parasitic Broken Singularity | DEC. 2020

The image falls within a current of digital art that explores the tensions between the organic and the inorganic, the natural and the artificial, a theme that resonates with contemporary apocalyptic discourses. From the first explorations of computer art in the 60s and 70s with figures like Frieder Nake and Georg Nees, which focused on algorithmic aesthetics and the generation of abstract images, digital art has evolved towards the representation of more complex and often dystopian concepts. The rise of cyberpunk in literature and cinema of the 80s, with works like Blade Runner by Ridley Scott and the novels of William Gibson, profoundly influenced the aesthetics of digital art, presenting worlds where technology and society merge in disturbing ways.

This particular image dialogues with the idea of hyper-technification, a concept that describes an excessive dependence on technology that can lead to alienation, the loss of connection with nature, and, in extreme scenarios, to self-destruction. Philosophically, it can be connected with the thought of Jean Baudrillard and his concept of hyperreality, where simulation and representation surpass reality itself, creating a world of simulacra. It can also be related to the ideas of Paul Virilio on speed and technology, where the constant acceleration driven by technology leads to a loss of meaning and a state of permanent crisis. In the current context, the proliferation of generative artificial intelligence such as DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion has democratized the creation of complex digital images but has also intensified the debate on authorship, originality, and the impact of technology on human creativity, themes that are also reflected in artistic representations of the end of the world.

Title: “The parasitic Broken Singularity”

Description: The image presents an abstract and fragmented composition, dominated by angular and organic forms that seem to merge and disintegrate at the same time. Red and black tones predominate, with touches of white and a background that varies between pinkish and ochre yellow. A central mass, with a rough texture and visceral appearance, unfolds towards the sides, as if it were exploding or crumbling. Sharp lines and fragments are observed that suggest a broken or decaying technological structure. The image conveys a sense of chaos, violence, and desolation, reinforced by the presence of splashes and stains that extend over the background. The lighting is contrasted, creating deep shadows that accentuate the three-dimensionality of the forms and contribute to the oppressive atmosphere.
